Malene Hauxner, 1942 - 2012
Malene Hauxner, a well known Danish Landscape architect, author and professor has passed away at the age of 70 in Denmark, on January 18th, 2012. She will be remembered as one of the most important theorists working in landscape architecture. Her research on landscape architecture is collected into three volumes - Fantasiens Have (The Garden of Imagination, 1993), Med Himlen som Loft (2000)(Open to the Sky, 2002) and Supernatur (2010). The books chart the development of the modernist movement in landscape architecture from the turn of the 20th century to the present day. Ms. Hauxner was editor of JoLA, the Journal of Landscape Architecture from 2006 to 2010, and she was also a force in the World in Denmark set of symposia which brought together academics and practitioners from landscape architecture and closely related fields. She will be remembered as a warm and generous spirit with a sharp intellect. A full obituary will be published in Topos 78 (March 2012). The Topos team offers their condolences to Malene Hauxner’s friends and family. She will be remembered by many for years to come.
